Meet the Governors
Del Fry – Co-opted Governor and Chair of Governors
Term of office ends - 31st August 2022
My name is Derek Fry but everyone calls me Del. I have a real interest in SEN as my adult son Matt was diagnosed Autistic at two years of age. Over the last twenty or so years I have been a governor of four special schools, three of which are in Swindon. As chair of one school I played a small part in the school achieving it’s first outstanding Ofsted judgement. Initially my employment background was in the construction industry. In my 30s I gained a degree in History and further qualification in Housing. I have chaired tenant groups at a local and regional level as well as being a board member of two housing associations. My aim is to work alongside my fellow governors and the school’s SLT to make Chalet School the very best primary school in Swindon for children with ASC and to ensure that our pupils are well prepared for the next stage of their education.
Erica Milsom – Co-opted Governor and Vice Chair of Governors
Term of office ends - 27th April 2019
I have been involved in education in Swindon since I began my teaching career in 1975. I have been a Governor at various times, including being a Parent Governor. I am currently on the Governing Body of two schools and Chalet is the first special school I have been involved with. I am delighted to be a Governor here, it is such a unique place and I can see how committed the staff and parents are and I can really see how much the children enjoy being here!
Rebecca Curtis – Staff Governor
Term of office ends - 26th April 2020
Hi my name is Rebecca Curtis and I am known by my colleagues as Beckie. I have worked as a teaching assistant at The Chalet School for nearly four years. I have always had a passion for working with special needs children for as long as I can remember and I have a lot of experience volunteering at a number of different places before finding my home at The Chalet School. I wanted to become a school governor to share the views of the children and their outlook in different situations.
Helena Knight – Acting Headteacher
I have 10 years’ experience of being a proud member of The Chalet School Governing Body. Over this time, the governing body has responded and met a range of challenges that has enabled the school to grow from strength to strength. The responsibilities of governance cannot be under-estimated; however the accountability comes with a great deal of satisfaction in knowing that you can make a real difference to the lives of the children and families that we serve.
Robert Angus – Co-opted Governor
Term of office ends - 1st September 2018
My son used to attend The Chalet but has now moved on to Secondary Education. I work for Nationwide Building Society and live in North Swindon.
I have finance and business skills which are used in my role as Governor to support the school.
Pete Crockett - Co-opted Governor
Term of office ends - 3rd May 2021
I joined the governing body in May 2017. My educational experience consists of eight years as a Headteacher and forty years in education. Since retiring in 2013 I have worked as an educational consultant with mainstream and special schools.
Paul Davis – School Business Manager and Associate Member
Term of office ends - 9th October 2021
I joined The Chalet School in June 2017 as School Business Manager after having previously worked at Swindon Borough Council for over 25 years most recently as part of the Special Educational Needs Assessment Team. My aim is to ensure that I support pupils, staff and parents in both my role as Business Manager and Associate Member on the governing body.
Claire Morris – Assistant Headteacher and Staff Governor
Term of office ends - 12th June 2021
I thoroughly enjoy working at The Chalet School. Working with our children is a privilege and, as much as they learn from us, we learn from them. I champion enrichment and like taking the children to competitions and activities locally and some more further afield. I feel that, as part of the Governing Body, you play an important role in shaping the education and opportunities for our children. I have taught in both primary and secondary mainstream schools, which only strengthened my desire to work with more children with Special Educational Needs.
Gemma Neighbour - Parent Governor
Term of office ends - 23rd February 2022
I have recently been elected as parent governor and my Son started at Chalet in reception in September 2017. I have been a police officer for ten years and have particular experience in safeguarding of the vulnerable, including children. I want to advocate for the parent community to ensure our wishes and concerns are considered.
Anna La Porte - Parent Governor
Term of office ends - 23rd February 2022
My son Lenny has been attending the Chalet School since joining reception class in 2013. I have previously worked in a variety of sectors and roles including education - briefly as a nursery teacher and, most recently, as a specialist teaching assistant. I hope my newly appointed role as a parent governor will allow me to help the governing body to find an effective way of communicating with the parents and carers of our pupils. I do believe their valuable input can contribute to the school's future success.
